Infrastructures of Generosity
There are three parts to this. #1 is the establishment of common ground around the predicament and the challenge we are facing. #2 is the establishment around the description of the functional outlines of a desirable attractor #3 is the construction of some bridges that allow the transition from mechanics working in the current paradigm into ones that work in a new one.
Much has been said about all three, so i keep it brief.
#1 MOLOCH - a system creating money at exponential rates (10 year doubling), backed by the exponential movement of atoms (GDP/productivity,etc 20 year doubling), enabled by an exponentially growing energy supply (30 year doubling). This stack of dependencies creates perverse incentives driven by short term optimisations towards GDP growth in both the economy and politics, making it increasingly better at turning nature into waste and laughter into tears.
#2 HELIOGENIC CIVILISATION - instead of using a meagre 19TW derived from ancient sunlight, we can use the fresh 172.000TW delivered today for free by the big fusion reactor in the sky in order to grow the entire material stack for a successful human civilisation in tune with nature by recycling the six atoms of life continuously. Science knows how to do it, so does ancient knowledge.
#3 The central difference between MOLOCH and the HELIOGENIC CIVILISATION is the distribution of resource access across all forms of capital. This makes it inherently difficult to allocate molochian resources to heliogenic infrastructure. However, those who think through the mechanics of Moloch will discover that the majority of assets held in Moloch will evaporate once it reaches its inevitable end. This is true for both a positive and a negative ending of Moloch. Therefor the rational choice is to allocate resources to heliogenic infrastructures since the a falling tide takes all boats, just like the rising tide lifts all boats. It is not the question of whether the glass is half-full or half-empty, it is the question of "how big is the glass". Moloch is ridiculously small while the Heliogenic Civilisation is breathtakingly large.
Once this understanding sinks, things like RPT [Rgenerative Portfolio Theory] or E2P [Exit To Planet] become possible and viable mechanisms for resource allocation and risk management.
But there also is another way. There is an a cute little metaphor that explains this best: A construction worker comes to work one morning just to be sent home again by the foreman with the words: "Sorry, no work today - we ran out of meters". In other words: just because there is no money, it does not mean that the world stops functioning. People still grow and build and support and love each other. The alternative to finding ways of allocating financial resources is to understand exactly what other forms of capital might be viable replacements for money and then focus on them. These will inevitably be carried and provided by nature and community - BUT they require coordination - and this is exactly what is breaking apart right now. This is why we need to tell each other stories about who we are, what we love, what we fear - to be vulnerable, in order to allow each other to see us fully and from there get into coherence about where and how and why we want to be collectively.
The power is with the 90% of the people who lack financial capital - but own an abundance of every other form of capital.
We are bootstrapping all of these things across GITA, IRM (and the New Wohlstand Campaign), MOTHERLAND, Project MIRACLE - but we are just a few of many who are building the infrastructures of generosity towards a heliogenic civilisation.
